"Joyful" Meenakari Keepsake Storage Box
Add a colorful accent to any room of your home by using this exotic meenakari box to store your tiny odds and ends. Plastic peg legs are attached to protect your furniture surface. The interior is lined in aluminum and is divided into 4 sections. The divider panels can be removed to allow one large open space.Note: The foil lining is smudged and not a very high quality. It is lower quality meenakari work, thus it is only an accent piece and not extremely collectible.
The meenakari technique involves applying enamel to the surface of metal sheets. Before the enamel is applied, delicate designs are engraved into the metal. Then an enamel dust is poured into the grooves of the design features. A furnace is used to heat the metal sheet so that the enamel dust melts and becomes liquid. This process may take many steps since each enamel color is fired separately. After the last heating of the enamel, the metal is cooled and polished with agate. These colorful sheets are then used to cover such objects as boxes, picture frames, or vases. The result is a vibrant work of art that looks as if gemstones were melted to create a stained glass effect.
