Mother-of-pearl inlay accents the dazzling winter scene on this handpainted Russian lacquer box. After many layers of black lacquer were applied to the papier mache box, the artist painstakingly painted the scene and then applies many layers of clear lacquer over it. The result is a glossy lacquer box with intricate details. You'll have to get out a magnifying glass to fully appreciate each tiny detail.
