This beautiful floral lacquer box was designed by Nantana Sompamitre of Thailand. The delicate floral design is made by a technique called "lai kad" (dug-out pattern) in which the pattern is dug out and then painted. The box is made from mango wood and many coats of lacquer are patiently applied.
