The colors and details in this small Russian lacquer box are exquisite. Look closely behind the tree and you'll see a mother-of-pearl inlay. Before the scene was painted, numerous layers of black lacquer were applied. After the artist finished painting the scene, several coats of clear lacquer were applied. The interior is finished in red lacquer.
